It's remarkable that the number of news analyses/pundit takes that the Democrats are too extreme--out of touch, too focused on divisive cultural issues, too beholden to progressive orthodoxy--far exceeds the articles on the Trump/GOP's connections to the far right. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/16/u...

People want to believe that the GOP’s electoral success in red states is the result of dirty tricks and gerrymandering instead of the sincerely held beliefs of a majority of the population because a mechanical issue is easier to fix than wrestling with how to make people not believe what they do.

I represented vets as an attorney and 100% agree. The way Hegseth talks about war explains why he spent his post-service years working to weasel known war criminals hated by their fellow soldiers back into polite society. Everything Pete does is about Pete—none of it has anything to do with America.
I work with Veterans. If I told them that they "killed people and broke things for a living" they would (rightfully) tell me to go to hell.

Those that have had to kill someone in the line of duty most often view it with sadness, regret, and one of the worst experiences of their lives.
Hegseth: "A few months ago I was at the White House when President Trump announced his liberation day for America's trade policy. It was a landmark day. Well, today is another liberation day. The liberation of America's warriors ... you kill people and break things for a living."

Exactly why I canceled two trips to the US this year. And next. And probably for quite a few years by the look of things. No one down there is fighting back.
This summer, I invited overseas friends to visit.

Answer:
You live in a totalitarian regime now.
It is not safe. Even doing everything legally to enter,
we could be:

-jailed upon arrival,
-sent to a Trump death camp where you cannot find us,
-helplessly watch our daughter get abused by ICE staff.

Crazy to have an epidemic of murderers confessing they’re actually leftists on the bullets despite everything else about them being right wing coded.

reposted this today because the inverse is also true:

if you abandon trans people right now, you are abandoning civil rights period.

if you can't stand up for trans people when it matters, no one should, or will, ever trust you when the bullseye moves to the next target.
the thing about trans rights is that we fight the civil rights issues of our time. nazi chuds have made this the issue of our time.

it's not more *important* than other civil rights issues, but it is the battleground of the moment, and we have to meet the moment to support everyone's rights.
Centrists bigots and right wingers have this all backward. YOU are the ones constantly bringing up trans issues. I would be happy to not think about this shit every day of my life unless I was talking to or reading something by one of my trans friends and thought of it in passing. SHUT THE FUCK UP

"What is remarkable is not that writers anticipated how the neoliberal turn would go, but that 40 years and several international economic crises later, politicians still respond to these crises with solutions that prioritize markets over people."

Hi.
I’m a white cishet mother. I’m a practicing Catholic. I’m a few days short of my 31st wedding anniversary.
I think people not like me are valuable and deserve human rights. Including, but not limited to people who are:
* LGBTQA+
* single, poly, partnered
* childless
* of other faiths or none
