Ending NOAA’s partnership with the Alaska Earthquake Center means fewer seismic stations and slower, less accurate tsunami warnings for Alaska, Hawaiʻi, and the West Coast.

NOAA did not renew a contract that supported a handful of seismic stations in Alaska. This could hamper tsunami warnings for Alaska, Hawaiʻi and the West Coast.
