Anyone up for some #ToxTuesday?
A lot of us love spicy foods, and the capsaicin in chili peppers that gives us that heat can be addictive. But is there anything hotter? I'm glad you asked. Yes, yes there is. And it's called RESINIFERATOXIN

Friends don't let friends make bad graphs repo has been updated!

Friends don't let friends use histogram for small sample sizes. Bin numbers affect the appearance of histograms, thus not robust to small (and modest sample sizes). They stabilize w/ large sample sizes.

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪
There are already many articles for which there is more attention on Bluesky than on other comparable micro-blogging sites, meaning the academic community and the general public have clearly adopted Bluesky as one of its core places to disseminate and discuss new research.

A Place of Joy.

This paper is super super cool!! Did you know you can see the shadows of Joshua trees from Google map images? And then you can use that to estimate with pretty incredible detail the range? You can, and they did!! Check it out.
New paper out today: An "unprecedented" range map of the eastern and western Joshua tree, based on Google Maps satellite imagery for more than SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND quarter-square kilometer grid cells

Blog post rundown: lab.jbyoder.org/2023/12/14/n...
