It isn't "cars" per se. Where would we be without taxis & utilities? It's "nothing but cars" & "tear out the tramlines": EG US & France post WW2. Germany, Netherlands etc. sensibly kept them. Now France has rebuilt. Only the US has ruled out pedestrians!

I don't get your point here.
Kamchatka is a volcanic region. Volcanoes will volcano, irrespective of anything humans do. It's not something specifically Russian, rather the contrary.

Anyone going to a protest now (hell, even just observing; not protesting) has done the math: they're there with the understanding that they might be killed.

He executed Tukhachevsky, the one general who understood tank warfare (Hitler gave Guderian all the tanks he wanted, but the FR top brass disagreed w/ de Gaulle abt tanks).
If he'd headed any other European country he'd have been toast.
