Finally, it's out! For decades Caribbean geologists and biologists were puzzled how South American land plants and animals could have traveled to Cuba. Our new reconstruction of rising, moving, and breaking land bridges now shows how!

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

📜🌋⚒️ New ACP paper on the #LaPalma 2021 #eruption! N. Taquet and coauthors from @aemet.es and @ipna.csic.es use multiparametric observations to shed light on volatile emissions. Part of my (little) contribution are these nice sulphide droplets from early tephras 😍

A las 15.03h (hora local canaria) se iniciaba la erupción, que continuaría durante 85 días hasta el 13 de diciembre, siendo la erupción histórica más larga registrada en la isla y tercera en el archipiélago

Just spent some time digging through old Maxar/DigitalGlobe blogs to find a reference image and found this incredible capture of Mt Fuji. Incredible.

The satellite was only three degrees above the horizon when it captured this image.

🌋 Excited to share my new essay in Aeon: one of the most underappreciated global risks isn’t an asteroid or supervolcano—it’s the eruptions we don’t see coming:
The science of volcanoes and their relationship with the climate is hard to keep up with. Why do some volcanoes give us little warning before they blow? Are we ignoring the next big eruption?
Hidden volcanoes: are we ignoring the next big eruption? | Aeon Essays
The next global disaster may be triggered by a catastrophic eruption. How can we prepare for the fire beneath our feet?

Scientists who study climate don't automatically attribute all changes to human activity. Rather, we carefully investigate every possible natural factor that could explain the planet's warming.

Could these be the real culprits?

The evidence is in--and the answer is NO.

This thread explains! 🧵
