Merz zeigt sich vom Tod von Margot Friedländer betroffen - und setzt zugleich das Asylrecht in Europa für Deutschland aus. Wohlgemerkt war es das Asylrecht, das aus der Erfahrung des zweiten Weltkriegs entstand und Menschen vor Folter, Tod und Gewalt bewahren sollte.
