I really need this too!
I really need to get better at finding pleasure in being alive and simply existing, rather than constantly thinking "If I can just get through this ordeal..." and "If I can just get past that deadline..." Then what? The next ordeal or deadline, and repeat, until death?

For those people who don't understand why pre-orders can be such a big thing for authors...
When I was a buyer at a large indie, my rule of thumb was:

1 preorder: huh, let me take a closer look at this one
2 preorders: we need to stock this book
3 preorders: we should order enough to face this out
4+ preorders: this should be on front-of-store display
More detail: When booksellers get pre-orders, it's a quantitative and qualitative signal that there is like *something here* about a book. The avalanche of new books out there is hard to communicate if you're not in the industry, and pre-orders are one of vanishingly few signals. It is a real thing!

I know it's 'Black Friday' and some of you will grab a bargain and I don't blame you. But don't forget Irish small businesses - bookshops, craftspeople, artists - who are desperate for your custom. Spread the love.

I can not express how much I detest the whole Black Friday nonsense. It makes me really anxious. Stop making us feel like we need to buy loads of stuff from billionaires. This year, if you feel compelled to spend money, why not bring joy and shop small. It will make a difference to a small business.

Just a reminder that I have two Ryanair flights to London Stansted from next Thursday 5th (11am ish) to Sunday 8th (5pm return) that I won't be using. For the price of changing the names, you can have a pre-Christmas shopping trip to London!

Thanks so much to everyone who has downloaded my game Two Words already. We’ve just added a word-strength meter which I love. We are listening to feedback so do let us know what you like and don’t like! Here’s the download link for those who fancy giving it a go.

It was impossible to take Gregg Wallace seriously after Jim Howick completely skewered him, over a decade ago, in these Horrible Histories sketches. EIGHT MINUTES

Love this idea.
The challenge is to choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

No 1: the book that has stayed with me.

Mostly the joy I've experienced has been thanks to the talents of others. Music. Comedy. Art. Food. Books. Conversation. I've had to fight the urge to hide away. Today I almost cancelled going to a show. But I went. And found more joy in the music & being with a good friend.
Here's to more joy!

The thing about joy is you have to look for it. Go after it. Embrace the opportunities to experience it. And I've found it often
