i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

Always read Steve on law. An additional gloss is that a state could, I think, prosecute a fed officer for unconstitutional acts that violate state criminal law, as such acts cannot, as a matter of law, be reasonably necessary to enforce federal law (though a version of qualified immunity may apply).
Today's "One First" explains why Stephen Miller is wrong that ICE officers have "federal immunity" from prosecution for all actions they take in their official duties, and that anyone attempting to prosecute them is committing a felony.
