No matter where someone was born, the United States should never tolerate inhumane treatment. Yet right now, detainees in ICE custody are facing conditions that are simply unacceptable in any country that claims to uphold human rights, let alone one that prides itself on freedom and the rule of law.

A Chinese student who was convicted of drugging and raping 10 women in London and in his home country was given a life sentence on Thursday. Investigators said they had identified 50 further potential victims in videos he recorded using cameras inside his homes.
