Crazy weather here in Anchorage today- gale force winds, driving rain, temps in the 40s (F). Pretty wild. We have a broken treetop and a bit of missing siding, but doing better than other folks around town. So glad climate change isn’t real!

We’re watching The LOTR films over the next 2 of weeks - The Fellowship of the Ring today (Christmas Day), then The Two Towers on New Year’s Day, and finally The Return of the King on January 3rd, which is J.R.R. Tolkien’s birthday. It turns out, to the surprise of no one , that I am a huge nerd.

My almost 3-year old daughter just referred to me as her mom as her best friends, and then gave us both kisses. I’m slightly overwhelmed by the cuteness and wholesomeness of this.

I’m a sucker for alternate history books. Think Harry Turtledove, for example. Throw in some magic, and it’s even better. S.M. Stirling’s Emberverse series is gold standard there. Lately, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Charlaine Harris’s Gunnie Rose series. It’s a real treat.
