During early #WW2 my grandfather commanded the fire fighters at White Waltham airfield. He is pictured sitting in the firetruck in 1941. He was ATA. As kids we played on the airfield as we lived nearby and I knew every inch of it like the back of my hand. Thankfully I have his memorabilia #ATA

I recently acquired this old aluminium mug which was used by a member of the French Resistance whilst serving with a maquis in SW France. If you look closely you can see some engravings he did whilst spending time hidden in the hills, he was 19 at the time. Coffee soup & wine most likely! ☨ #WW2 #SOE

If you’re an #SOE or Resistant saboteur during #WW2 and you’re wanting to set an ambush or roadblock you'll need some of these. Caltrops now aka tyrebursters date as far back as #Roman times. These two I recently acquired were made in a clandestine forge in the Dordogne ☨💥

If you’re an SOE or Resistant saboteur during WW2 and you’re wanting to trigger your explosives manually you’ll need one of these. The Exploder Dynamo Condenser Mk3 would be wound up with a handle to create the correct voltage and then press the FIRE button and BAMM ⚡️💥 #SOE #WW2 #Resistance

#OPERATIONFRANKTON is the operational name of the famous #ww2 ‘Cockleshell Heroes’ raid, carried out by ten Royal Marines that paddled the length of the Gironde Estuary in tiny canoes to place explosive limpet mines on German merchant ships harboured in the French port of Bordeaux. Published 2024.

Published by Helion in 2015 - #MettleAndPasture - the story of the part played during the Second World War in Europe by the 2nd Battalion The Lincolnshire Regiment.
This is the story of the war the way it really was for an infantryman - told by the men who were there. Written by Gary Weight #ww2
