This is when it gets hairy. Putin needs an "dignified" off-ramp. With luck, clever people will offer him it. With a lot of luck, he will take the proffered compromise. But right now, in his 70s, with no line of succession, he may refuse and just up the ante, with God knows what consequences.

Very interesting. Trump seems to finally be getting intelligence that Russia is not doing well and Ukraine has actually started to gain an upper hand in some areas. The narrative of Ukraine failure, which was always overblown, might be ending in Washington.

Most of this could have been avoided if we hadn't had so many short-sighted politicians and escalation managers who needlessly escalated the war by not offering Ukraine full support from the start.
