Vanitas vanitatum, et omnia vanitas

Anybody with over €1B can easily afford to not have any more than that. There is no argument about individual happiness or even rational allocation of resources via the profit motive that can justify the accumulation of such obscene wealth.
Jeff Bezos is worth $230 billion and is reportedly spending $20 million on a three-day wedding in Venice while sailing around on his $500 million yacht. If he can afford to do that, he can afford a wealth tax and to pay Amazon workers a living wage. Hello?

Smoot-Hawley idiocy by the moron-in-chief
Trump has already damaged the economy with his abysmal foreign policy and loyalty to special interests, but the worst is yet to come. Trump’s “Day of Liberation” will be remembered like Black Tuesday. He will own the destruction that follows.

Our thoughts are with the people of Myanmar and Thailand, as they are dealing with the aftermath of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit the region today.

Over 90 people, including construction workers, are reported missing and 8 have lost their lives.

It would not. And it would test whether the military ultimately obeys the President or the Constitution
US treaties are part of the supreme law of the land.

I question whether a presidential directive to the US military to invade and annex the territory of a NATO ally would be a "lawful order."

We have questions about the details of ceasefire, such as the continuing existence of Ukraine after it.

Truer than the real Putin
Will agree to ceasefire if Ukraine promises not to defend itself when we attack it again.

And anyone who has not yet realised this is in denial.
Don’t overthink it. The President of the United States stands with Putin. He always has. And bcuz he’s the leader of 1 of America’s political parties, and bcuz he’s turned that political party into a cult, that entire American political party now stands with Putin and stands against the free world.

Um sinal forte seria neste momento o regresso do Reino Unido ao seio da União Europeia e o reforço de laços com o Canadá. Isso sim, começaria a equilibrar um pouco a balança.

Lots of talk of appeasement and Neville Chamberlain but I think it’s worse than that.

What we have is the equivalent of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact where Nazi Germany and the USSR became friends and carved up Poland between them.

That came as a shock at the time too.

Expect nothing else from the Trump administration
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, during a closed-door meeting on Wednesday, rejected an offer by the Trump administration to relinquish half of the country’s mineral resources in exchange for U.S. support, according to people with knowledge of the talks. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/w...

Actually, these massive concessions Trump is making to Russia are quite easy to understand if you understand that Trump is negotiating for Putin. Trump works for Putin.

I am only surprised at the fact that anyone is surprised by Trump's rogue-state behavior.
When President Trump announced his proposal for the U.S. to take ownership of Gaza, he shocked even senior members of his own White House and government. His administration hadn't done even the most basic planning to examine the feasibility of the idea, people with knowledge of the discussions said.
Inside Trump’s Hastily Written Proposal to ‘Own’ Gaza
Although the president had been talking about the idea for weeks, there had been no meetings on the subject, and senior members of his government were taken by surprise.

Reality beats fiction in the absurdity department
In terms of how empires fall stories turning the whole thing over to a ketamine addled tech baron and a band of incel teens is probably one of the most pathetic options

A good example of the distinction between ideology and personality cult.
Another reminder tonight that MAGA’s ONLY ideology is devotion to Trump. When Trump said let’s extricate America from the rest of the world, focus on home, no more wars, no nation-building, MAGA cheered. But now Trump says let’s take over Greenland, Canada, the Panama Canal, & Gaza. And MAGA cheers.

That @elonmusk hasn’t been hauled before Congress & forced to answer questions under oath is all the evidence you need to know that we’re in a Constitutional crisis. The legislative branch has officially abandoned its duty to defend the Constitution. Hence, a Constitutional crisis.
