on one hand I can see the logic on which someone would (wrongly) interpret (incorrectly) the text in a way (it was a metaphor) that lends to thinking they have wings ("like ... wings" isn't "cast by ... wings") (tolkien uses fly to mean run) but now you've got a We Agree meme attached to that stance
