I didn't know about this. Seems like a great thing.
periodic reminder of the existence of Atkinson Hyperlegible, a free font available from the Braille Institute designed to improve readability for people with low vision

I use it in talks because it's pretty and also because, as an audience member, I am perpetually squinting at people's slides

Would love to see death positive NF, big idea books with a ‘speculative’ bent to them, under explored histories, and all things astrology/tarot!! #mswl

It's definitely what proves you're a "real" agent. Most Coveted Screenshot 100%.
I'm obsessed with obscure internet stuff so when learning about trade publishing, I was fascinated by Publishers Marketplace, the craigslisty, barebones website about who's doing what in publishing

it has a lowkey badass social media vibe among authors, editors, and agents, as this piece describes

Thought I'd demystify publishing language for debuts.

'Structural edit' = rewrite your book
'Line edit' = all these sentences are wrong
'Copy edit' = your chronology is wrong
'Proof read' = there are still loads of errors
'Second proof read' = how the hell is your punctuation still up the spout?

I like to ask what they think they want & where that aligns or differs from their unconscious needs. I like "the unique & personal way in which your protagonist connects with their world." I'm adding that to my q about aspects of life in which they are safe vs the things that weigh upon them.
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 1650:
No two people see the world in exactly the same way. When creating a character, try considering the unique and personal way in which your protagonist connects with their world; their dominant sense; their limits; their abilities. How do these things define them?

This thing I'm knitting is just for practice and has no predetermined length. It's going to be a pet blanket for donation, so my sole criteria at this point is "am I sick of it yet? [Y/N]"

Jury Duty Roulette for next week begins today. I'm not hoping for any particular outcome, just for some certainty. I just want to know what my Monday's going to look like.

Misc agenting stuff: 900 queries processed YTD. I'll hit 1k by the end of November, and I'm looking forward to this year's roundup stats. (I'm not closing my inbox for December, but also, I don't send declines from Hanukkah through New Years.)

I think this really sums up a lot of dystopian fiction. Hey, what if this shit that has been happening to marginalized people for centuries suddenly started happening… to us!?

Self-pub authors are perennially mad at indie bookshops for not stocking their books or only ordering from Ingram. They fail to grasp that if the books are not purchased from Ingram, the store doesn't make enough to make even unboxing the book worth its time. The self-pub authors (1/5)
