In her presser today, she said, "If I allow what other people have to say about me affect me ... then they win. ... I stood up for myself and I kept in my mind in that moment how I wanted to portray myself and how I wanted to show up." Her whole career is a testament to never letting the haters win.

When she was 16, the USTA pulled its support because they said she had to lose weight. In an essay for the Players’ Tribune, she wrote: “I was fat, and I was Black, so they took away my dream. Or at least they tried.” But her dream wasn't that easy to kill.
