Make a statement about some topic. Ask a very simple question like “Why?” or “What changed?” that doesn’t give him something to latch onto and babble about instead of the statement.
And for goodness sake, follow up when he whiffs on it! 2/2

“Traditional Wisdom” says the two major parties don’t want third parties to gain power because they are afraid of losing power.
“New Approach” would be if one party is having a tough time forming a coalition but PR or multi-member districts might actually help them. There is no Blue-side Fox News

Obligatory plug because I wrote a thing about why fusion is good and you should like it and the Constitution says so and also Abe Lincoln.

You are right, Democrats are both a party and a coalition. I think there is a bright future where we have proportional representation, but just splitting into smaller parties now doesn’t get us there.
But we can still organize in small groups and work with Dems. WFP has been doing this.

Also important to mention: if ranked choice voting in the primary changed the outcome at all, we can see that people actually want more Progressive leaders, but give up and vote for a lukewarm option because they believe their neighbors are not as progressive. So don’t give up in advance!

The job of a good message isn't to say what is popular. The job of a good message is to make popular what we need said.

MAGA and Madison Avenue have known and exploited this. But it also very much applies to campaigns for good.

History lesson: Throughout the 1800s, the two major parties – first the Democrats and the Whigs, and then after the Civil War the Democrats and the Republicans – shared the political stage with a host of smaller parties. centerforballotfreedom.org/fusion-in-am...
Fusion in American history - Center for Ballot Freedom

By the way most European countries already have 2.0 and have had third parties in their coalition governments for 50+ years.

Sadly, voting for third parties right now in the US will further delay our upgrades. Vote for #Progressive #Democrats and show up to their #Primary if you want reform.

We are still at least two major upgrades away from PR feature being available. Upgrade path:

Democracy Classic 1.0 winner-take-all. << US IS HERE NOW
Ranked Choice single district
Gerrymander virus protection
States Compact to force Direct Popular Vote
Democracy 2.0 Proportional Representation

Democrats are right to refuse to go along. Republicans are in charge of the House and this is on them.

Even if you disregard parties, the Speaker is the one personally and directly in charge of negotiating and finding the proposal that 60 reps will vote for.

Literally, Speaker, you had one job!
