Update on this: per suggestion by the ANN bsky account I sent a message to moderation asking why my posts got deleted. I was told I broke the rule of "Self-promotion is only allowed if it has value, is relevant, and creates discussion for this forum" despite my posts easily clearing those conditions

This whole thing reminds me about something that happened to me a couple of years back: I asked for months at JNC for further communication on follow-up projects as my contracted one was closing in on completion and got nothing back. Completely stonewalled by my superiors.
Not to get all "Workers of the world, unite!" early on a Monday morning, but I'm deeply concerned with how much power manga publishers hold over contract workers.

One possible explanation for this is that they want to increase sub compatibility with services like Amazon with positively abysmal subtitle support. Of course, I personally think throwing one of your few true technical competitive advantages away for such a reason is crazy... 2/3

Also, to address some points in the (now-deleted) tweet: the new encodes are actually less device-compatible than the old ones, and users on slower connections are already catered to by lower resolution options. Reducing high-end quality for the sake of an already solved problem is not very wise!

Anyway, in case it wasn't obvious, but when you're the biggest English anime company and video content is your MAIN BUSINESS, having your entire technical video department consist of just one person with very little vetting is frankly ridiculous. Only the best for #anime consumers!
