I'm always saying this, I've watched the space evolve over the past decade and it's been the result of deliberate choices, some of which were not easy or popular at the time.

You can foster diversity and inclusion in your spaces. It works.
The extent to which Games Done Quick has helped to steer the larger speedrunning community - one of the most hardcore video game enthusiast subcultures there is - into becoming something so welcoming, inclusive and supportive astonishes me

“If a woman dares to show herself in public in any way, then she can and will be sexually harassed with the aid of genAI-driven tools that can easily turn her face into highly realistic pornography” is an absolute red-alarm human rights disaster
The end goal of Grok sexual harassment is to make women afraid to be visible. It’s a punishment for daring to exist in a way the perpetrators can’t control. There’s no one solution to this, because the problem isn’t just technological. It’s cultural. It’s misogyny. This is just one expression of it.

Those of you who believe in mortal sin ought to recognize this for what it is.
“‘If a fire occurs in the cabin ... don’t check on the immigrants. Just make sure that you and the guards and the people that work for the government get off," one flight attendant was told.

“It was as if the detainees’ lives were worthless,’” said another.

Current and former flight attendants for GlobalX, the private charter airline at the center of Trump’s immigration crackdown, expressed concern about their inability to treat passengers humanely and t...

hot damn, a friend informs me that his doctor apparently prescribed him a 3-day course of azithromycin (500mg/day) to take... *if* he got diarrhea when traveling, with no further diagnostics. just, "here's antibiotics, take 'em if you feel shitty". and people wonder why AZM resistance is on the rise

the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches

didn't matter how quickly or easily one can make a bunch of slop it all falls apart if you need to print it onto paper and buy a spot in a physical space and convince people to actually buy it

One funny thing Elon Musk figured out about the media is if, instead of providing comment to reporters, you email back an automated reply saying "go fuck yourself," the reporters will just invent their own plausible-sounding defense of your conduct to balance their stories instead of punishing you

and the WAV-to-* (ie currently hardcoded only WAV-to-WAV) pipeline is selected based on the *file extension of the input*
January 2, 2026 at 7:03 AM
like it's completely "bare minimum thing you could build to demo a couple specific tasks in an ffmpeg-like CLI tool", but eg if the input is WAV, it's architecturally incapable of having the output not also be WAV without someone specifically extending the WAV-to-* pipeline
January 2, 2026 at 7:02 AM
pretty sure this is the case given the project itself is an absolute joke architecture-wise; absolutely not capable of even remotely approaching ffmpeg's capabilities at a basic API-design level

"an ageless elegy" for the show title was mostly expanded to roll off the tongue a little more smoothly and fit better onscreen in the title card, while still being very obviously related to the nickname once it comes up

we pondered some options in the neighborhood of "undertaker" and "pallbearer", but the former defaults to a tough-guy interpretation (thanks to the pro wrestler) and the latter just doesn't have the right ring to it

ultimately once we got to "elegy" it was quickly very clear it was the right fit

I was part of the discussions that ultimately led to "an ageless elegy", so I can provide some background here!
we spent a lot of time thinking through words that are:
- associated with death and loss
- give off a somber, mournful vibe
- but can sound *metal as hell* when recontextualized

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have shown Alzheimer’s disease can be REVERSED- not just prevented. Using a potent neuroprotective compound called P7C3-A20, they found RESTORING balance to a central cellular energy molecule (NAD+) not only PREVENTED disease features but REVERSED them, EVEN at late stages.
