my friend's name was Myles. we grew up together. he was a musician, a guitarist and songwriter. he had schizophrenia. he died when he was 24 of a treatable infection, after leaving our home town and support network after a violent encounter with police that hospitalized him. there was an inquest
if you ever see metal leaves with names on them in the sidewalk or in parks in seattle, those are deaths of people who died while experiencing homeless. my friend is one of them

I woke up this morning thinking "maybe I shouldn't have had kids" because I'm afraid for them and their future.
Then both of my kids woke up making plans about how to look out for and protect other people and I am just so proud and thankful for them.
They deserve better.
