In elementary, we had spelling tests every week, and the workbooks had an appendix with acceptable alternatives. For example, it said that "layed" and "tomatoe" were also correct. As a nerd, I took it literally and memorized them.

40 years later, it still trips me up.

The two Star Trek games announced this week were not on my bingo card.

- A Voyager base management game
- A VR zombie game where you as a vulcan try to hold onto your logic as you slowly turn into a zombie

They're both a bit out of left field, but I'm here for it.

My toxic trait is that I want one of these as a Cafe Coding Cyberdeck. I'd put some crazy Linux Tiling Window Manager on it, wrap it in a vinyl skin, and then never actually use it.

if you know someone who was impacted, call them. Support them, lend them your network, your references, your referrals, and your time. This is a day with a lot of tears.

Today was my last day at GitHub/npm.

I've been doing this for nearly 25 years, so I've accrued quite a bit of expertise. If you're looking for someone that is an experienced programmer with a passion for data in all forms (databases, apis, protocols, etc.) please reach out.

I wanted to make a shader for a random flame that looked hand drawn. So I took a gradient with some color banding, and wiggled it around with noise.

Long term illness.

I've been focused on only my good days, my aspirational days. Instead I need to plan on my routine for typical days, and plan to communicate and let go of my guilt on bad days.

I recommend reading Mental Immunity by Andy Norman. We're all vulnerable to propaganda and conspiracy thinking, and we should be studying what makes us more and less vulnerable. As Norman puts it, we damage reason's fulcrum.

Why are AAA games in crisis? Prioritizing growth over people. Sven was right. The investment culture of greed is harmful.

I've decided to release my planet generator toy as open source. It'll take a few weeks. I thought I'd make my own game with it, but I've got enough projects right now.

I'm ashamed to live in such times.

I'm caring for those I'm responsible for. Eroding my mental health by constantly engaging with it online would make me less capable of caring for my family.

I see and appreciate those who can and do.

Incredible work! We didn't start to see this high of quality outside of tech demos until Red Dead Redemption 2. This could definitely be a paid add-on.
