A federal judge has permanently barred the Trump Administration from deploying National Guard troops to Portland, following a long back-and-forth battle. Oregon leaders are celebrating the decision, but DOJ lawyers are already discussing an appeal.

Just because our president acts lawless doesn’t mean laws have no power. Many of his worst ideas have been stopped by the Constitution, and we need to fight back on every front, including via the law. You do have rights—know them!

To write a lengthy article about a (hugely overstated) "teacher absentee crisis" and not talk to a single teacher currently working in Oregon schools is quite unfortunate. The framing here encourages people to pick sides instead of working together to solve any potential problem that might exist.
In and around Portland, teachers are missing more school than ever. Their bosses don't want to talk about it
It's not just students. Post-pandemic, teachers are also missing significantly more school days. Oregon has virtually no policies in place to counteract the trend.

For the time being, "This isn't what I voted for" is one of the best possible things to hear, no matter how enraging and unfair it is. Convincing them to turn to the camera and explain they are now the correct kind of socialist will have to wait at least a minute, unfortunately
In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

Fascinating profile of a park ranger in San Francisco who works with unhoused residents and has adopted the novel tactic of treating them like human beings, building relationships, and helping them access resources on their own timeline.
Her job is to remove homeless people from SF's parks. Her methods are extraordinary
Instead of forcing people out of Golden Gate Park, ranger Amanda Barrows helps them find housing.

Too many car drivers in Portland are completely out of control. Look at this damage in front of a carfree block of Chief Joseph Elem. School. WTH is wrong w people?!

If we saw this type of behavior from any other mode there would be widespread shock & anger.
