Universities are moving rapidly to comply with laws that don't exist.
“I’m emotionally shellshocked right now,” said one professor in the Texas Tech system. “What does it say about academic freedom? It says we don’t have it.” The professor spoke by phone from the inside of a car to avoid being overheard by colleagues.

as someone who is a hater, i accept and welcome the fact that i have haters. what is good for the goose, etc. in fact, i think people in this business should be more open about their hating. if we think our words matter, then we should feel some kind of way about people who do bad work.
I have accepted that I have haters, including people annoyed by the water drinking reminders, and I don't have the time or energy to care about them anymore.
this is something you just have to live with if you are even barely well-known online; people make up elaborate stories about you in their heads. it will always happen and you cannot give a shit about it, only stomp on it if they try to spread these weird tales to anybody you actually know.

This whole thing is shameful. There is no acceptable use of AI and the environmental destruction it is bringing.

1)At least 540 Swedish born soldiers fell at the Western Front in WW1. This is what I have found so far, it may be more of them. 343 of them fought for the American Expeditionary Forces. The majority of them are buried and commemorated in Belgium and France, but 43 of them are buried back in the US>

one thing we absolutely do not need to do as a field is to say that people - with history degrees - aren't "historians"

fuck off with that elitist bullshit

Well, that’s the rest of the materials to make my War of 1812 kit!

Yes. I started reenacting earlier time periods this year and have been hand sewing my own clothing for them (late 18th and early 19th centuries). It’s very much a critical part of understanding the period, imo, and in the case of Connecticut’s War of 1812 uniform its critical. (1/?)

I've recently been researching the Indian Army's mountain batteries in the First World War. These batteries saw action at Gallipoli, in East Africa, and in the Middle East. Their experiences are an absolutely fascinating story of some very tough men and their equally tough mules!

In the past day I’ve heard two people who really should know better say they asked ChatGPT for factual info.

ChatGPT is not a search engine. It is predictive text based on other people’s stolen writing; its whole job is to make stuff up. Please do not ask it for facts. Tell a friend.

That’s the vest done! Next up is the coatee. I was also too lazy to find my sleeve buttons for this fit test, so excuse the open cuffs.

One step closer to having a complete Connecticut Militia Uniform for the War of 1812.
