Identified in the 1970s, the precise molecular function of the alternative initiation factor eIF2A has remained unclear. Here, we map its interactome and uncover a surprising role in ribosome-associated quality control (RQC) upon ribosome stalling. 1/x

The alternative initiation factor eIF2A regulates 40S subunit turnover in ribosome-associated quality control
The noncanonical translation initiation factor eIF2A plays critical roles in diverse cellular processes, including the integrated stress response, neurodegeneration and tumorigenesis. However, the pre...

An ultraconserved snoRNA-like element in long noncoding RNA CRNDE promotes ribosome biogenesis and cell proliferation
Cancer cells frequently enhance ribosome production to support rapid growth. Here, Lee et al. demonstrate that an isoform of lncRNA CRNDE containing an ultraconserved element (CRNDEUCE) promotes 60S r...

The timeline of co-transcriptional #mRNA processing and #modification may have to be revised: cleavage, termination, and #m6A deposition may occur earlier than most #splicing! Potential textbook changing study in bioRxiv by edueyras.bsky.social & Rippei Hayashi labs!

Single-molecule multimodal timing of in vivo mRNA synthesis
mRNA synthesis requires extensive pre-mRNA maturation, the organisation of which remains unclear. Here, we directly sequence pre-mRNA without metabolic labelling or amplification to resolve transcript...

I am happy to share the latest paper from the lab. We detail a tripartite cell-free translation system based on the separation of mRNAs, ribosomes and ribosome-depleted cytoplasmic lysate from human cells, allowing for flexible reconstitution of translation reaction.
