Greenfinch, Treecreeper and Goldcrest added for #footit in the last few days. Up to 52 species. It's a loong way to 78! (In 2013 I was self employed and had a quiet month in Jan before working all Feb so I walked sooo far!). #yorkshirebirding

Back to work today. Still managed to boost the #FootIt total by 1 to 87, with overhead Pink-footed Geese heard at 5.45pm on my 10 metre commute from the office to the back door.

Only time for short pre work walk from home today. Beautiful light over the Exe Estuary. Crisp underfoot.

I noticed two distant Tufted Duck flying up river as I returned. Less than annual on my home patch and a lovely addition to #FootIt (number 89).

Back to work this week, so fewer chances to walk or watch from the house. Current #FootIt total is 60 species. Pretty happy with that, six days in. Highlights have been White-tailed Eagle and Kingfisher. My seen within 25k of the house is at a respectable 88. With Common Scoter and WF Goose best.

Needed to pick up waterproof reproofing spray.

Ran to Cotswold Outdoor, ran around some fields, saw Skylarks, Linnets & Stonechats for #FootIt, ran home. Back at my desk.

#FootIt 2026 now at 92.

My Devon year list is 98 = dedication to birding on foot.

Still not brave enough to run on the icy pavements so Bert 🐕 and I walked through Exeter suburbs to reach an unassuming stream.

Found at least 2 Green Sandpipers but couldn’t find a Dipper. Jay, Chiffchaffs & Siskin also new for year, moving #FootIt total to 88.

A distractingly beautiful morning meant I couldn't resist a much longer walk from home than planned. Siskins *everywhere* glowing in the low sun. Lapwing and Golden Plover flocks going over bring #footit total to 47 species.

Beautiful day to be out & about around the Exe Estuary.

Day 4 of #FootIt & as expected the pace of new bird species is slowing up locally.

Today’s additions were golden (Goldeneye & Golden Plover) plus Kestrel & Pheasant. Foot It list stands at 84.

Tomorrow’s plan is to run to some new sites.

I set this morning intending to head to the commons to find Dartford Warbler etc for my #LowCarbonBirding #FootIt list.

But I soon changed my plans due to ice ❄️ & kept to the estuary.

22k run & 5 new #FootIt bird species (total 75).

Stopped by BGM to see 23 WF Geese.

A potter round produced a goody. Hawfinch(!) at Rhiwderin, initially flying around with a small flock of Chaffinch near the ‘swimming pond’ at c.ST263868 (adjacent to the Yellowthroat site), later sat up for high quality handheld phone-scoping shenanigans. #gwentbirding #lowcarbonbirding #footit

Out the front door, then almost 5 hrs investigating footpaths and habitat mainly on W side of Axminster. Pleasantly surprised at potential. Among 42 spp recorded were a few not particularly expected, like Green Sandpiper, Kingfisher, Stock Dove, Treecreeper, etc...
It's a start.

Beautiful end to the day. Walked a short distance up river to look for Goosander. Bingo! One red-head under the M5 bridge.

And then I sat on a step and watched the sun set.

Ended the day on 80 species of bird for #FootIt.
