Today Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele visited the White House. There Bukele and Trump doubled down on their illegal scheme that has resulted in the disappearances of over 280 people to El Salvador’s notorious CECOT mega-prison.

We don’t need to reinvent the wheel and can dispense with unhelpful terms like ‘climate refugee’. Existing laws, applied correctly, can protect people.

Noting that Elon Musk attacked the Lutheran Church's work providing services, and that JD Vance attacked Catholic Bishops for their work with immigrants. Fair to say that this administration is one of the most hostile to religion and religious freedom that we have seen in recent memory.

Wow.

At WH press briefing just now, press sec Karoline Leavitt was asked how many immigrants arrested by ICE under the Trump admin have criminal records.

Leavitt: "All of them, because they illegally broke our nation's laws, and therefore they are criminals as far as this administration goes."

How the HECK is it not a nationwide scandal that Trump told federal law enforcement to divert resources away from drug trafficking and terrorism cases to instead prioritize prosecuting undocumented immigrants for living here?

They screamed about fentanyl and then did this!

Unfortunately for Colombia, in our unipolar world, there's no choice but to obey the lone superpower. There are no rival powers or blocs like China, Russia, or BRICS just waiting to welcome Colombia with open arms.

Oh wait, yes, there absolutely are. That seems like a likely consequence of today.

Trump just took 500 Marines on standby to help with escalating California wildfires and sent them to the border instead, where migrant crossings have been at the lowest level they’ve been in years since July. Unbelievable.

And apparently armed, which is new. This is a disaster waiting to happen.

Sheinbaum's remarks raise A LOT of questions. The strategy of a humanitarian response followed by repatriations sure sounds like chain refoulement.
Another huge question: does this mean Mexico plans to engage in chain refoulment and, unlike last time, not permit migrants to actually remain in Mexico? If so, what a joke. What an absolute joke.

Hard to say though. We'll have to wait for operational details.
Sheinbaum, basically going along: "What can we do about it? Well, act in a humanitarian way and then, according to our foreign policy, our immigration policy, seek these people's repatriation to their countries of origin if they are not Mexican."

Ruben Gallego has claimed that the Ken Paxton Empowerment Act, aka the Laken Riley Act, "would exempt Dreamers brought here illegally as children, which is not true."
Dems appear close to surrendering to Trump/GOP on the Laken Riley Act. Dem aides tell me they're particularly rankled with how Sens John Fetterman and Ruben Gallego rushed to endorse the whole bill. That undercut the potential to amend it later.

Democrats Are About to Surrender to Trump in a Hugely Damaging Way
The immigration bill the Senate is taking up has some horrible provisions. With worse on the way, Democrats should not be caving like this.
