Model and mimic: a clever longhorn beetle (Euderces reichei, at right) tries its best to look like a local carpenter ant, Campontous decipiens, as they both feed on a spring dogwood flower. Brackenridge Field Laboratory, Texas.

I mean this in an encouraging way: try to unlearn your disgust of “creepy” crawlies. While not always easy, it is so richly rewarding to develop an appreciation for some of the most numerous and fascinating animals that you can see just about every time you go outside. There is wonder everywhere.

Because, like many things about capitalism, it's not about making money so much as it is about exerting your personal power (mediated through the fiction of being a "manager" or whatever) over all of your serfs
See the 4-day work week as well. Shockingly popular, workers are happier, company is more profitable and yet ... crickets on actually implementing it.

THREAD: Under a new law, thousands of prisoners in Louisiana have been cut off from ever getting a chance at parole.

Why?

Because an algorithm said so. 1/

by keeping it to nine words I thought I might encourage people to not do the “the problem is the south!” thing or at least interrogate their lib reflexes in this matter but, alas,

so I need to make about 700 this month to pay bills on time 😭
I have a decent queue right now but commissions are now my sole income and we've been compounded with car trouble after car trouble. I need to take some extra work to cover 500+ in car repairs

If your commission is over 250 I'll print it up to 11x17 and ship it to you.

old great aunt prove her citizenship to vote in rural georgia, this definitely isn’t reminiscent of anything in the american past
🧵 There are a lot of misleading claims out there about the SAVE Act. Let me set the record straight: I voted for the SAVE Act for the simple reason that American elections are for Americans. Requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote is common sense.
