Meet Evan Anzoo, a five-year-old boy in South Sudan who died when Elon Musk shut down USAID and the boy lost access to his HIV meds. Musk says no one has died because of the aid shutdown, but that's because he didn't look. RIP, Evan, you deserved better. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Welcome to recognizing what corporations have been doing for a couple generations now, it’s good to have you on the team.
What are we DOING here? We're just meant to sit and act like this insane plagiarism and climate threat that requires more money than anything has ever cost is worth it? Are we meant to pretend that ChatGPT is worth this aimless, meaningless destruction of capital and our environment? For what?
Yeah I need way more money than anyone ever got before. I need it because my shit is difficult right now. But it's important in ways even I haven't been able to work out. OpenAI is a serious business. Help me. Please help me please my serious company is so good. Help me

The principle Trump-camp is standing behind in the H1B debate is that short-term economic health is more important than hypothetical American jobs.
If they apply the same principle to agriculture and home building, there’s no shot they’ll go through with the mass deportation.

everything is speech now, except for actual speech, which is unfortunately election interference.
Trump's lawyers call a newpaper publishing information that might affect the eleciton "Election Interference" and argue it's some kind of tort, as opposed to Consitutionally protected speech. Also a poll published in parnership with a paper is "leaked" to it? www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

United CEO Andrew Witty gave an address to the company today (leaked to me), telling employees "we guard against...unnecessary care" and that "There are very few people in the history of the U. S. healthcare industry who had a bigger positive effect on American healthcare than Brian [Thompson]."

Did you guys know that publishers won’t sell audio books to libraries?
They lease them as software for 10x the price and the lease expires when they lend them 10 times or in 3 years.

Found out the theatre kid community is hating on Ariana in wicked because she’s a pop star and I am reminded that their reputation as insufferable clouts is entirely deserved.

Ask me anything about the books, world, or reading experience and I’ll answer and for every like, I’ll post a hot take.

How do I let the book people corner of Bluesky know that I’m out here and want to be mutuals. Do I have to post about Stormlight archive for that to happen?
Are you looking to feel an overwhelming sense that all the beauty in the world is meaningless in the face of human cruelty?
If so, consider reading “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens.

My Thanksgiving soapbox no one wants to hear?
Disney destroying the public domain is the reason we don’t get fun stories riffing off old IP anymore like Gregory Maguire did writing Wicked.

Tax cuts that increase the deficit but make the stock market rise are just wealth transfers from the future to the current wealthy.
