Those NZ Initiative statue avatar twitter pricks claiming Switzerland's referendum model is compatible with high development. Swiss women got the vote in 1971, after failed referenda in the past. It was 1990 when the last Canton gave women voting rights. In 2009 they banned minarets by referendum.

“There was still a minimum wage and additional payments such as Working for Families and the accommodation supplement that could be used to top up workers' wages.”

So they’re trying to prop up private companies by topping up poverty wages with taxpayer dollars?

One presumes no one involved in UK Labour did a quick search for "Robotdebt".

Because that should tell you exactly where this is going to go, both in terms of the human misery it resulted in and the fate of the government which introduced it.

This certainly applies to all reporting on Seymour & ACT
the media's circular but default programming is to insist that anything that's said, regardless of its empirical weight, has the benefit of being valid because it was said
The funniest part of this is the lady at the end going “well we can talk about insanity as a strategy” because no one can just say what’s going on without someone trying to tell everyone it’s normal. A year from now it’ll be like well maybe peeing your pants is normal, maybe it makes your legs cool

Why?!

Is this ‘popular with friends’?

Why am I seeing this!

A spectacular premise.
This thread full of people going 'fuck centrists' but would they lift a finger to shoot their apolitical neighbour lady who didn't vote hard enough in the head when they find themselves in a failed state and she comes over to see if they need any lemons, I don't think so, smdh.

This is a hard compromise

I’ve always been proper left & have despaired as the Overton Window has cleaved to the right over the years.

The left needs a reboot to remember who they really are
The Left needs to find some middle ground between "we must embody what self-identifying centerists told us they wanted in a focus group three years ago" and "fuck the centre we're better off without them".

I’m assuming there’s a reason this land hasn’t been built on before now - is it the fact that it was a lagoon before the earthquake?

Whenever someone tries to run the government like a business they do the same stupid bullshit every useless upper management asshole does. Slash staffing and hours and try and make it run with the bare minimum. They tank the business severely , and everyone is unhappy. Rinse repeat

Citizen Thiel is at again with his own brand of conspiracism.
“Critics of Thiel’s column call it “beyond nuts,” like an “edited version of one of those lunatic emails journalists get sometimes with 8 different fonts in 9 different colors,” a piece “that perfectly replicates the experience of being cornered by a sweaty cokehead”

Peter Thiel’s Twisted Vision for the Trump Presidency
The tech billionaire believes Trump will help to reveal hidden truths—like how Jeffrey Epstein actually died. But beneath his conspiracism lies a very real, very dangerous political theory.

This is actually fucked. A NZ based company is essentially empowering large retailers to create, hold, and share a massive facial recognition crowdsourced database of everyone who ever goes into a big box retailer. Wtf.

This is why Americans are so tiresome.
Normal elections last a month or so whereas Americans campaign all the fucken time.
The democrats in the senate & house need to do their jobs as the opposition and actually oppose

Oops, I forgot Julian Clary’s Sticky Moments too.
Such a great night for appointment TV back then
Back in the late 80s in Aotearoa/NZ, my friends & I used to rush home on a Friday to the nearest of our houses to watch Red Dwarf & Who’s Line.
Loved Tony Slattery. Maybe had a wee crush.
