Guy with the longest-running Ulysses bit despite not caring very much about Ulysses
Since I was traveling in Europe with family, I ate Chinese food more than expected. In hindsight, it was kind of a neat thing. Chinese tourists are everywhere, but it's a different thing to interact with the Chinese diaspora, particularly those who, like my parents, ended up in restaurant work.

British Chinese taking a real reputation hit. This fucked up dorkus on Slow Horses, and the surprisingly middling food scene in London. Their Chinatown is like New York Little Italy. It actually has dudes standing outside telling laowai to go eat in there!

If not for Gary Oldman being extremely entertaining, I would have given up on Slow Horses a long time ago. The show would be turbo dogshit without him.

Read that Atlantic piece about how much worse everybody is getting at math, and I get how it's happening, but it's still kind of surprising given how STEM-focused everything has become.

A final jeopardy clue about a term for Jewish people hiding underground that goes "human _____" seems like a really risky idea. I'm guessing the contestant answered "IDK" to avoid saying something offensive on tv and becoming an unfortunate meme.

Few things more fake in food snobbery than people getting high and mighty about hot sauce. Tobasco is fine. Most things work fine in the right circumstance.

I’d never been to a football game higher than high school level until today. Really funny at a college game to give one lucky kid 100 bucks in scratchers and the opportunity to win 20 more each time he throws the football through the hole.

I've grown more and more weary of social media. It pushes everybody to make themselves into little entrepreneurs, from "so thrilled to announce" writers and academics, to OF content creators replying to every viral post, to big shitposter accounts engaging in "discourse". EVERYTHING is an ad now.

I can maybe find my way to thinking it's fine if you want a LLM chat buddy to vent at because you don't have someone else in your life to fill that role. But this all feels people are ceding more and more of their humanity. Have you fully given up on life?
