Guy with the longest-running Ulysses bit despite not caring very much about Ulysses

"Peace, RAM, and Bread" was the pivotal 2028 slogan of AOC and the DSA, addressing the urgent demands of the American population during revolution. It promised an end to the occupation (peace), redistribution of DDR5 sticks from data centers to gamers (RAM), and relief from food shortages (bread).

After GoT got big, I'd wondered if someone was going to try to make an adaptation of Le Morte d'Arthur or some other King Arthur adaptation. Seemed like once we got really sick of zombies and Westworld shit the bed after some cool western stuff, maybe it'd be time to get back into Arthuriana.

As someone who grew up in an American Chinese restaurant, it's fun to figure out some Cantonese working backwards after studying Mandarin.

Moo Goo Gai Pan is Mo Gu Ji Pian is 蘑菇雞片 is mushroom and chicken.

Reimagining this scene from the Superman tv show where Kent flies to Shanghai and brings her back a giant hunk of dongpo rou and some kao fu.

"Clark, what is this shit? Where is my moo goo gai pan?!"

Eventually, you come to realize how many fake eaters there are out there. I used to try to time it so I could get to the little Thai grocery store in Chinatown at 5pm Thursday to get some fresh holy basil so I could chow down on some krapow. These folks can't even figure out sesame oil.

Is there DS9 discourse going on here right now? I'd love to be added to it if so.
January 23, 2026 at 7:04 PM
I used to care enough about the Star Wars vs Star Trek fights that I secretly felt pleased at how great DS9 was and how much people hated the prequels. I chilled on the Wars hate and came to appreciate some of it. It's a bummer to think now that Andor is far better than any contemporary Trek show.

I read the summary of R.F. Kuang's forthcoming novel about a young woman doing language study in Taipei and immediately bumped on the detail that she has an awful roommate. This is 套房 erasure!

I don't really like any of our current crop of Asian American celebrities or influencers, or even really the idea of "Asian American"-ness, but I go turbo boba AAPI liberal once I start seeing everyone ganging up on one and saying they're white adjacent.
January 12, 2026 at 12:06 AM
When China becomes the global hegemon, we can finally rid the world of "white-adjacency". We will all become Chinesemaxxers.

Catch me on my new gimmick account "Daily Mad Men Scene Where Peggy Soaks Roger For All the Money In His Pocket". It pairs nicely with my other gimmick account "Who Got That One Mad Men Clip?"

Hulu, we need to bring back more tv shows. America is dying to know what Steve Urkel's been up to since going to space. Also, bring back the original Harriet.

Accidentally rewatched Tenet again. I love this movie, but I'm afraid the haters are right: his female characters are written terribly.

"Sator's gonna destroy the whole world."

"But what about my son!?!?!"

Since I was traveling in Europe with family, I ate Chinese food more than expected. In hindsight, it was kind of a neat thing. Chinese tourists are everywhere, but it's a different thing to interact with the Chinese diaspora, particularly those who, like my parents, ended up in restaurant work.

Regret to discover that if I just cut out most dairy for a week, all the symptoms I thought were indicative of something malignant just go away.

British Chinese taking a real reputation hit. This fucked up dorkus on Slow Horses, and the surprisingly middling food scene in London. Their Chinatown is like New York Little Italy. It actually has dudes standing outside telling laowai to go eat in there!

If not for Gary Oldman being extremely entertaining, I would have given up on Slow Horses a long time ago. The show would be turbo dogshit without him.

Read that Atlantic piece about how much worse everybody is getting at math, and I get how it's happening, but it's still kind of surprising given how STEM-focused everything has become.

Cool thing about being out of the country tonight is that I’ll definitely be asleep when the results are in.

Really would be nice for something good to happen. It’d be nice if we could all have nice things, but I’m cool if it’s just New York tonight.
