I've begun my research into version differences in Ocarina of Time.
This ongoing thread will be updated with examples I find interesting!

I just walked out of the final presentation of my undergraduate career.

8 years ago I dropped out of college because I hated what I was studying.
Getting involved with OoT decomp, and ultimately being a part of the speedrunning community, is what gave me the courage to go back.
So, thank you❤️

Happy to announce the Majora's Mask decompilation project reached 100% completion for the US N64 version! Still tons of work to be done (other versions, more documentation, fixing fake matches, etc.), but an incredibly satisfying end to years of work. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this!

"Start Mode" determines Link's behavior when spawning into an area.
There is an unused mode that will make him use a door immediately when spawning.

If this mode is used and no door is nearby, he will be stuck in place forever.

While we have never found an N64 Debug ROM in the wild, with recent decomp developments we can at least compile our own.
NTSC 1.0 with (most) debug features toggled on:

With the latest commit to OoT decomp, NTSC 1.0 and 1.1 are now supported: github.com/zeldaret/oot...

With all of the versions supported so far (13 of them!), N64 and GC versions are fully matched.
That only leaves a few more niche versions like iQue and Lodgenet/Gateway.
Completely match ntsc-1.0/1.1 bss and add to CI (#2294) · zeldaret/oot@8ce69c3

Nearly all (relevant) versions of OoT will be decomped in the near future. At that point I plan to put together an “ultimate changelog” that highlights all differences.

Whenever that happens I will prob post interesting snippets of that research here. It’ll be a written doc + vid eventually though.
