der speigel always had the most accurate depictions of trump, imo
rich people never had to follow the law...
"defense attorneys are telling us they can’t get their clients to take good or reasonable plea offers because they felt they’re better off spending their money on a political donation, drawing Trump’s attention, and getting the case dismissed or going to trial and getting a pardon."

The DOJ ordered US Marshals to the house of the pardon attorney who refused to sign off on a pardon to give Mel Gibson back his guns. Big law firms told her they supported her but did not want to be seen representing her.
This is the use of government-sponsored fear to silence dissent.

if only we had media that did this kind of reporting...
The reason President Biden didn’t release the Epstein files is because they were placed under judicial seal on July 30, 2019, during Trump's first term. The expiration date of the judicial seal was November 12, 2025, Trump's second term. That’s why they’re able to be released now.

this is increasingly what I believe too, especially regarding fascism: it is the ideology of pure indulgent feeling, unchecked by reason or consistency. that's why so much of it is built around empty aesthetics that feel strong or important but have no substantive ideas beneath them.
This mirrors closely my idea (spurred by reading Robert Sapolsky) that at its core, populism is the politics of gut social instincts - our default social mode, inherited from primates. Baboons have no ideological beliefs but tons of MAGAesque social opinions - xenophobia, pro-hierarchy, etc.
MAGA revels in the idea that rules, standards, norms, mores, and even consistent beliefs are for suckers. It is an ideology of indulgent groupthink - "Why not simply go along with the crowd? It'll feel good"

Most Americans agree we need to get money out of politics. If that takes a constitutional amendment, then that's what we have to do. And if that's going to take years, then it's all the more reason to begin pushing now.

I love the framing of the Nuzzi article where she needed to go into exile and get away from everything so she disappeared into ... Los Angeles, and started hanging out with media bigwigs there instead of on the east coast

You'll ignore this, but every time you tweet angrily about crap like that Nuzzi piece you're confirming NYT editors' intuitions/incentivizing more of it. The entire intellectual/journo model here is, "Does this person get people angry? Yes? OK they're provocative/get talked about. Write about her."

Epstein offered the NY Times photos of Trump with young girls in bikinis during his first campaign in 2015.

The NY Times declined them because they were just too busy hyperventilating over Hillary’s private email server.
