Five years ago, it would have been tricky to find 20 jobs in conservation that #ShowTheSalary. Today I can do it easily, and compensation is going up across the board.

Advocacy works, inside & out! Don’t stop nudging the holdouts.

Spent the week testing audiologgers on reindeer at the Large Animal Research Station in Fairbanks, AK; hopefully this will help calibrate the accelerometers and get more acoustic training data before these go out on wild caribou. The reindeer were almost too leisurely… 🧪🌎🌱

One of the few water melons I picked at the right time this year, and I can’t believe it was in October! 👩‍🌾

Some paintings and photos from my recent trip to Kugluktuk. I try to make plein air paintings in a book I made for my toddler, and this the longest I was away from him. I went there to present to the Hunter Trapper Organization on caribou research and I look forward to coming back in the future. 🧪🌎

That funky feeling when your old advisor gets mad at you for not working hard enough on a publication even though they no longer pay your bills—but you would update them on the results that you /have/ been working on if only all the team meetings weren’t at times only you couldn’t attend. 🎉

Getting out on the land thanks to the great folks in Kugluktuk, Nunavut. The Richardson Sound and River are wonderful; a caribou country with no caribou as they move further inland. 🌎🧪

👋 I’m a PhD student working in the Gurarie lab at SUNY-ESF studying barren-ground caribou movement and sound disturbance using acoustic monitors and bio-logging technology. I did my MS at the UAF in Fbx, AK studying caribou hearing and the soundscapes of the Alaska’s Arctic Coastal Plain.

Being surrounded by migrating caribou during fieldwork in the Arctic. Sat on some willows on a muddy riverbank where the caribou were crossing and watched them climb out of the water and run past me into the trees. Wish I could post the video.
