To heal our divided nation I propose splitting Game of the Year awards into two categories:

- Game of the Year That’s 3D and You Use a Sword and/or Gun to Explode a Guy
- Game of the Year That’s Some Gay Bullshit Indie Meditation on Grief or Whatever

If you're planning on shopping during black Friday or cyber Monday, why not consider supporting artists, writers, creators? Buy a book, purchase an indie video game, commission an art piece, gift someone a Patreon. Your support means everything.

While we’re at it; studios that have made redundancies in the last year shouldn’t be allowed to win a Game Award. They can be nominated, sure. But layoffs should be taken into consideration when it comes to actually winning.

I can’t believe that’s considered a hot take but it is.

Thanks to everyone who reached out with advice. It looks like the main culprit was my own laziness 😅 I exported the whole scene from Blender as a single mesh... Splitting it up into smaller parts has helped reduce the blotchiness of things

I'm trying to actually learn what Lumen wants this time instead of just turning it off but currently I'm completely stumped as to what is causing these weird fuzzy/blotchy shadow lumps.... Do I have anyone on here who can help?

Almost surreal. The water really is this colour, if you don’t believe me I’ll find the video to prove it! The reflection of a small but very beautiful waterfall near Bovec, Slovenia, in the green pool at its base.

Alright! Let's actually talk about this waterfall thing. It is an amazing showcase of many things that I adore from late 90s/early 2000s graphics.
I am replicating this in Blender through mere observation, so some things might not be fully accurate to the mind-boggling effects of the PS1.

I should have been donating all along. Blender has been such an incredible tool for me, the last 5 games I have shipped have been exclusively modeled, UV'd and rigged in Blender. It fucking rules! You can't make me go back to Maya! I won't!
Blender is struggling. it's the best piece of 3d software on the market, and it's free. I'm not going back to autodesk.
please donate if you can!

Keep in mind that small independent bookshops get waaaay smaller wholesale discounts than Waterstones.

A small shop gets 35-45% off a book when Waterstones have been known to expect 85%
Waterstones to open about 100m from Argonaut, a particularly nice indie bookshop. Quote from Waterstones management makes it sound like they got Argonaut mixed up with the gaming café next door.

Experimented with some hand painted normals on that corridor piece today. Not sure fully hand painted it going to be worth it in the long run, the scale of details on camera just doesn't make it worth the time.
BUT... might be some value in subtler macro variations. Experiments will continue...

Tim Sweeney getting this upset over a review grilling a game for using AI tools is proof that more and more reviews should be taking the same approach whenever AI pops up.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has defended AI following Eurogamer's 2/5 Arc Raiders review, which criticised the game's use use of AI voice generation. "AI dialog generation + human personality and tuning could totally transform gaming," Sweeney said.
