I’ve been wanting to make some murals here in my hometown of Phoenix, and this is the first of a few designs I am working on! Growing up I always heard folks call it “the valley of the sun”, which inspired this piece with the big goopy sun god. If you know PHX I hope you spot some landmarks!

I did a lot of lighting on Keeper and it was a joy to have a fully dynamic lighting system, which made shifts in areas like this easy to do. We also had custom Lumen-based lights that @p1xelcoder.bsky.social put together that helped us hit the painterly/stage lighting look we were after.

The cat came to the usual meadow. It comes here because the breeze feels so nice. And it loves the town visible from here. Plus, playing in the meadow and seeing KOKEDAMACHAN and friends has become one of its favorite things to do.

Oh, I love this. A new species of sea anemone was discovered recently that parks itself on top of a hermit crab shell like a hat. It seems to feed partly off the crab's faeces, but it also excretes a hard shell that extends the crab's home. In return, it's carried around the seafloor like a king.

The easiest way to create action lines in a shader is to take some noise and convert its UVs to polar coordinates 🙂

Yesterday a purse I made earlier this year was featured in a show put on by the city as part of Phoenix Fashion Week! It's the first time my leatherwork has been recognized by the arts community and it felt really nice to be acknowledged for my personal work outside of games.

The morphs in Keeper use distance fields as an (implicit) surface representation, which makes it possible to control the distance at which the surface should lie. In other words, it’s easy to deflate or inflate objects, and meshes become easily ‘moldable’.
