Stop agonizing and start drawing.

You will:
- Uncover your weaknesses (so you can then develop them)
- Learn when you make mistakes, you're safe (and can make more)
- Realize just how capable you are
- Build confidence

It is that easy. The hardest part is starting.

The genre of fiction that has really aced environmentalism is the one that has, on the face of it, the least to do with harsh reality.

From The Lord of the Rings to Game of Thrones, fantasy has vividly conveyed the threat of environmental destruction.
Why fantasy has often handled environmentalism better than science fiction
This essay was published in Arc , a sadly short-lived spin-off from New Scientist , in 2014. Arc was a wild blend of short stories, essays, criticism and general interestingness, created and edited...

So true!
There is a lack of such lightning in modern films.
“It’s because the narrative is dark and scary”, they said. No, it’s because they don’t want to make any efforts to do good films :,)
I watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy recently and was struck again by the level of character in the details: the production design was absolutely masterful. Also the lighting: when things were dark, there was still enough contrast to SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON.

Seeing this again so here’s a reminder to people looking to buy art.

It is your responsibility to FIND the art you can afford, not for artists to go without so you can have a thing.

I understand fomo, but if your budget is limited, I assure you, there’s art in that price range.

The Rings of Power is still bad: a lot of pathos, poor acting, and a weak scenario. And TRoP's team calls their audience "racist" and "evil".
Who is real evil: a huge corporation disrespecting the source material and the audience or the fans of Tolkien's great work? :/

You should read the classics. And furthermore you should expand the scope of what you consider a classic. Read Aurileus, yes, and Confucius. Read Beowulf of course. And Homer. But also The Tale of Genji and the Epic of Gilgamesh. Read Shakespeare but also Sappho, Rumi and Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo.
