The camping ban and ICE raids aren't the same by far, but they are similar. Both of their goals are primarily to instill fear, and remove people from the public eye. It's not to make anyone more safe, or improve the lives of anyone, except those who would rather these people not exist.

⁨📷⁩ ⁨H.R.1 SNAP notices sent Oct. 15 Notice was sent to all individuals who may be required to participate in able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWD) federal work rules. Visit the ODHS website to learn more about SNAP work rules. Notices were also sent to: Lawfully present non-citizens facing reduction or ending of their benefits. People impacted by new federal limits on energy assistance-based Standard Utility Allowance. ⁨📷⁩ ⁨What will happen when the shutdown ends? If it's before Nov. 1: We will work with our vendor to distribute SNAP benefits as close to the normal schedule as possible. The sooner we have resolution, the more likely we can distribute benefits timely. If it's after Nov. 1: Benefits will be issued as quickly as possible. The timing depends on: How quickly the federal government acts. How rapidly the nation's payment systems can process the catch-up issuance. ⁨⁨Major areas of 2025-27 impact Oregonians' benefits lost or reduced - $425 million estimated benefit impact State share of administrative cost increases - $95 million estimated benefit impact States may be required to partially fund peoples' benefits - $438 million estimated benefit impact⁩ ⁨Domino impacts Losing SNAP eligibility can mean losing eligibility for linked programs: Children's school and summer meals Children's afterschool and summer programs Utility assistance Low-cost public transit fare programs SNAP reductions mean lost revenue for grocers, farmers and other food workers: Every $1 in SNAP benefits generates $1.50 to $1.80 in local economic activity. SNAP drives an estimated $1.6 billion annually into Oregon's economy.

It's important to watch how Democrat mayors impose authoritarian rule by criminalizing the autonomy of some of the most vulnerable people. "Submit to pseudo-incarceration or I'll sic the police on you and send you to real jail." Is this about helping people or pushing poor people out of sight?

Mayors Wilson’s overnight shelters have a remarkable vacancy rate — some up to 80% empty on average night.

He says that’s a positive.

“I’ve told my team I need hundreds of empty beds every night.”

That’s because it will allow him to start enforcing the city’s public camping ban next month.
