Turkish #etymology of the day: simit "ring-shaped bread with seeds", from Arabic سميذ \ سميد samīd/samīḏ "semolina" (Turkish 'd' devoices to 't' word-finally), from Aramaic ܣܡܻܝܕܳܐ (səmīḏā), from Akkadian 𒆠𒅔𒆠𒅔𒄯𒄯 samīdu, related to 𒀀𒊏𒄯𒄯 samādu “to grind fine”

As happened in Spain, in Portugal there was an appropriation of the Islamic past as a narrative of temporal continuity to which the inhabitants of Gharb al-Andalus were totally assimilated, creating the concept of Luso-Arabs. Don't miss our latest article
