Hello World
I'm a scientist and chemist, a juggler and long distance cyclist... and a priest in the Church of England. I blog and microblog about cycling, faith, and the ministry I have here in Slaithwaite and Marsden (West Yorkshire, UK) - and I've recently discovered the joy of 35mm photography.
"Ultimately, we should be working towards a society where everyone can move around safely at any hour, and where dangerous men (yes, men) cannot pose a threat. Until that ideal is reached, well-lit routes and the simple act of cycling together remain valuable and practical measures"

Why shoot film? Why shoot film on really old cameras?

Gerald has been making short films that resonate with me. He has a way of distilling it to the essence.

This new one hit a few new marks that absolutely nail it (IMHO)

Among other topics, we discuss the sale of children in care.
They're worth roughly £100k each. The profit you can extract by sending them across the country to the cheapest housing in derelict places, cutting them off from all hope and contact, is off the scale. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xx6...

Road collisions should not be viewed as inevitable. Today I pushed the Government to use the internationally recognised Safe System principles, grounded in harm reduction, as it develops a new road safety strategy.

I'm tired of the wasted money being spent by sensible people trying to keep up 'waves hand' all this AI nonsense. Smart folks (in their core competencies) who are struggling to keep up to date with 'waves hand' all this AI grift. i.e. CPD courses on AI ffs.

Keep music live.
Jake Fletcher is a session musician with Paul Weller, and tours with him. Here he is, playing a request set in a small English pub. Utterly fabulous.

For #coffeeneuring ride number three yesterday I headed out to a village coffee shop I hadn’t been to before. I remembered why I don’t ride that way very often. Whilst it’s out into the countryside & looks nice enough on the map it’s a bit boring on the ground and […]

This isn't surprising, if only thanks to habit. If I unthinkingly jump in my car for every trip (as many do), new buses won't change that

Cycling has come a long way.

And with cargo bikes offering more transport capability plus the option of extra power from electric batteries, the fun and benefits are great

As a Vicar I appear to be joyfully disappointing people one at a time... I feel it's the personal touch that counts.

Even when I was Archbishop of Wales and working with new bishops, I used to say, not realising quite how true it was, 'One of the things you will do as a bishop is disappoint people'.
