Reminder that Starbucks’ CEO made 6,666x more than the company's median employee in 2024.

This was the widest CEO-to-Worker pay gap in the entire S&P 500.

And we're supposed to believe Starbucks can't afford to bargain a fair contract with its unionized workers?

Raiding the Warm Homes Plan to find the money for a one-off cut to energy bills is utterly perverse when the Plan exists precisely to insulate homes & thus keep bills lower in perpetuity- this simply isn’t serious #budget2025

One of the judges in the Palestine Action case, Jonathan Swift, has written that his “favourite clients were the security and intelligence agencies” when representing the government.

He has previously defended the Defence and Home Secretaries.

A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

The Greens don’t believe providing safe refuge for endangered asylum seekers is an “out-of-control” policy.

Nor do we believe making life more difficult for those in need is the way to unify British society.

Refugees are welcome.

Still can't wrap my head around the fact that internationally renowned activist Greta Thunberg said she was tortured and sexually humiliated by Israeli soldiers when she was abducted for trying to bring aid to starving civilians and the world just shrugged and moved on.

It's long past time to tackle the British arms industry. I didn't say it on the podcast, but how about a punitive windfall tax on UK arms manufacturers to fund a British reparations scheme for Gaza and Yemen?
Ep.3 of the New Economics Podcast is out now!

Ayeisha Thomas-Smith is joined by Khem Rogaly from @transitionsec.bsky.social @cmmonwealth.bsky.social and @davidwearing.bsky.social from Sussex University to discuss how the UK became a global arms dealer.

As revealed by Channel 4 News’ documentary, UK arms exports to Israel have hit record highs — £408,000 in June and £316,000 in September.

The government says it’s restricting sales, but the data says otherwise.

The UK must end all arms sales to Israel now.

If the Tories want to scrap the Climate Change Act, then it's both fiscally and morally irresponsible not to put at least some money into dealing with the effects of the crisis - from flooding to extreme heat - and protecting the vulnerable for example in schools and care homes.

Our horror at the genocide in Gaza, at the mass murder of civilians on Oct 7 2023, and at today's atrocity in Manchester, comes in each case from the same, inherent part of our shared humanity. We need to assert that shared humanity as loudly as possible, and in as many practical ways as we can.

Tony Blair’s catastrophic decision to invade Iraq cost thousands upon thousands of lives.

He shouldn’t be anywhere near the Middle East, let alone Gaza.

It is not up to Blair, Trump or Netanyahu to decide the future of Gaza. That is up to the people of Palestine.

You can claim that British state power is a historic force for good in the world. Or you can insist that it is right and proper for Britain to grovel to the greatest malevolence seen on the international stage since the mid-twentieth century. But you can't do both and expect to be taken seriously.

Still true in 2025.
