A common-sense report out today from the World Resources Institute on actionable ways to control methane emissions in agriculture. I approve!
NEW: WRI report provides a "state of the science" & economic estimates of >25 agricultural methane mitigation solutions, including:

1. Increased livestock efficiency
2. Methane inhibitors
3. Breeding low-methane cows
4. Anti-methane vaccines
5. Manure digester alternatives
6. Curbing rice methane
🧪
From Better Breeding to Cow-Burp Vaccines, Emerging Solutions Could Curb Agricultural Emissions
Nearly half of global methane emissions come from agriculture, but promising approaches are emerging to reduce the sector's climate impact.

The Trump/DOGE fallout from the farm community is building up steam. Glad to see some high-level reporting on the issue.

Republicans caught between Trump and farmers pleading for frozen funds
Farmers complaining about Trump’s ongoing funding freeze to Agriculture Department programs are receiving mixed messages from Republicans in Congress.

This article (published Monday) is a good update on the Trump/DOGE funding freeze impacts on farmers.

Every day these funds are on hold, the closer it gets to spring planting time. Not good.

A great explanation on the link between Avian Flu, egg prices and government response (or lack thereof).
Though I do think there is a lot more 'at risk' with Avian Flu than just egg prices that need attention. It's circulating in cattle now, as well as swine. Plus humans!
And here's today's short for social media: Egg Prices 2, Eleggtric Boogaloo.

Egg supplies may be down as little as 2-3%. So why are customers getting HUGE shocks in price/supply?

An update on my post from last week on the impacts of Trump 2.0 on U.S. farmers and ranchers. This week's horror story? Massive firings at the USDA.

First, tariffs - which hurt U.S. farmers.

Next, dismantling USAID - which hurt U.S. farmers.

Now this.

Whatever its rationale, it's now clear that the GOP is waging economic war on U.S. farmers.

Farmers on the hook for millions after Trump freezes USDA funds
The White House had repeatedly said the funding freeze would not affect benefits that go directly to individuals.

Agree with this
Just saw a farmer say, "you don't have to admit you were wrong, you have to admit you were lied to, " and idk that seems like a good framing to call people in

Trying to wrap your head around what USAID does beyond the sensationalist headlines (and White House press releases)?

This is the best explanation I've seen of what the deletion of USAID will mean. Translation = it's not good.1/4

Yep. I've been seeing posts on LinkedIn from a lot of angry California farm officials over Trump's "turn the taps on" ploy.
It did nothing for fighting the California wildfires and instead wasted precious water resources California farmers will need in the summer.
Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
When you solve for the wrong problem, not only do you not get the solution, you can cause harm. The President wasted water that was being saved for farmers for a PR stunt.

This was harmful, ludicrous, and solved nothing.

Has anybody debunked the WhiteHouse claims claiming "fraud" by USAID? The... "$1.5 million to “advance diversity equity and inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and business communities” etc and what not.
It's being passed all over social media, but I can't find any information on the allegations.

Whoa. I follow a Canadian-based Facebook group and the Canadian citizens are PISSED. Even the ones that don't like Trudeau.
And they're not backing down with the tariff reprieve. They're swearing off U.S. products and trips.
Can't say I blame them! We stabbed a good friend in the back.

This one hits close to home for my PacNW farming and small business community.

Not only has this PacNW non-profit had to furlough its workers, but grant monies promised to regional farmers and small businesses to upgrade to more energy-efficient systems are now up in the air.

Coming out of nowhere (and in true Trumpian fashion!), Kelly Loeffler for Sec. of Ag. She grew up on an Illinois soybean farm, but otherwise, her experience in ag is, erhmm, negligible, to say the least. And, when running for senate, she attacked farm subsidies.
Gonna get interesting in ag land!
