it's absolutely critical to understand in this moment that people aren't largely reacting to who Charlie Kirk was as a person, but who they knew him as because of what tiny pieces of him got clipped out and stuck in their newsfeeds.
reposting with alt text because this feels incredibly significant. the right-wing disinfo machine means a lot of the people grieving Charlie Kirk never heard any of the things he said that would have tarnished his brand as Guy Who Just Wants to Have Dialogue Across the Aisle

Between Musk & the Trump administration, Media Matters has been squeezed to the brink. In settlement discussions, lawyers for X demanded the organization hand over all its cash and shut down — all because MM reported ads appeared on X next to antisemitic content. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/25/u...

A TV series adaptation of the Wolfenstein video games is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, from Fallout and Westworld producers. Patrick Somerville (Station Eleven) will be the creator and showrunner.

The official logline simply states: “The story of killing Nazis is evergreen.” 🤣

I wonder what's going to happen first:

1. People claiming their LLM chat is sentient and alive drive me insane
2. Google successfully creates an AGI

If Congress approves the current NOAA budget request, here’s what America stands to lose in weather & climate forecasting. (Spoiler: It’s a lot.)

It's so incredible to still see the left accused of moral relativism when every conservative column is just 'yes all of our leaders are bad but the people calling them bad sometimes exaggerate.'

There was one singular person the Trump team wanted to kill. They thought they tracked him to his girlfriend’s place, presumably in a civilian apartment building in Sana’a. So they dropped bombs on the neighborhood and leveled the building. Reactions from the group:
“amazing job”
“Excellent”
“👊🇺🇸💥”

This is what we mean when we say the regime is censuring science.

“CDC staff should not be co-authors on manuscripts/abstracts with WHO staff,” nor publish papers on work "funded by WHO.”

I have been getting a surprising number of questions about CIA's low-confidence announcement that they believe SARS-CoV-2 came from a lab.

A few comments in 🧵, but to summarize:

1️⃣ No new intelligence
2️⃣ No new report
3️⃣ No evidence exist to support SARS-CoV-2 came from lab
4️⃣ Usual nonsense

Trying to decide if it's worth it to try and transfer my content from threads and xitter over here, or just kinda start new.

Maybe keep my Threads seperate for now since it supports a particular kind of content?

Mm my source on regolith albedo vs incidence angle uses degrees for their polynomial estimate instead of radians and trig like everything else in my model.

Do I leave as-is or do I refactor the equation to fit?

Noone could predict a Minecraft mod ported to an Arma 3 looking engine would shift online gaming forever. Or Flappy bird, or Vampire survivors.

The forces behind the indy gaming market are incomprehensible.
Disco Elysium blowing up the way it did should be evidence that there’s no predicting the games market. Imagine trying to tell a money guy that game of the year was gonna be an Estonian visual novel by communists where you can pet the mailbox and say “I want to make fuck with you”

I took the dive into #Lemmy yesterday.

The way it implements cross-server federation makes it feel like surfing Reddit but for Reddits.

Where Reddit acts as a forum for forums, Lemmy feels like a forum for the forums of forums.
