When Covid first started, I felt hope.

I genuinely believed we would move forward as a more inclusive society.

That disabled people would start receiving the accommodations they had needed for years (like remote work).

That hope was crushed when we rushed back to normal

If you’re struggling right now, know that you’re not alone.

It’s ok if everything feels like it’s too much.

It’s ok if you can’t show up the way you want to.

It’s ok if you have to unplug, disappear, retreat or take a break.

Self care is resistance.

I don't make resolutions. I try to focus on just working on myself regularly so that it's a higher rate of success. But I have realized over this break that I definitely need to get much better at self care. Now that I feel like me again, I refuse to go back to how I felt before.

I don't think a break has ever felt so good. I can now mostly relax until we start back up Jan 5th. School stuff needs to be done but at least all that stuff happens at home. And we don't need anymore 630 wake ups after tomorrow. #faithandspoons

Bazaar season is finally past. And I'm surprised by how much fun it was this year. As we creep up to advent, I'm looking forward to stepping back slowing down and really enjoying the season. #churchlife

“If it’s that bad, you would have help!”

Help doesn’t magically arrive when you become disabled.

You’re not assigned a caregiver or given more money based on severity.

Many need more help than they’re getting.

If you’re struggling tonight, know you’re not alone.

Many of us are with you.

Being disabled is a minority group you can join at any time.

Everyone believes they will be the exception. That it won’t happen to them, or when it does they will “try harder” than us

The truth is most people will become disabled.

Health is both fragile & temporary.

I've had some realizations about #church lately that leave me questioning.

Church has become a popularity contest within a kindergarten class.

Less and less do I see Jesus within. Instead I see good people being pushed out/walking away because they follow Jesus, rather than the crowd.

The Washington Post torched free speech by firing Karen Attiah, the last Black female opinion columnist, for daring to quote truth.

This isn’t journalism, it’s cowardice: silencing voices that challenge power, gutting the First Amendment, and betraying readers who demand a free press. ✊🏾🔥

If you don't have have a way to include disabled people, in programs AND in running programs in your church then you are not accessible. #faithandspoons #faith #disabled #chronicillness #writing

I'm pretty sure I'm being slowly phased out of my church. They quietly reached out for volunteers to do things I've been doing in the bulletin without talking to me first. And had the nerve to have me print and fold the bulletin.. #chronicillness #faithandspoons

I thought the summer was going to be something of a shift for me. But I didn't even get to see Summer because of thoughtless people. September/Autumn WILL definitely be something and it ways I never saw coming because it's already begun. #faithandspoons #chronicillness

Boycott. Trade and barter. Strike. Share resources. Garden. De-arrest. Sabotage. Obstruct. Educate. Mutual aid. Community closets and fridges. Thrift. Shop local.

It’s gonna get bad. It’s gonna be a long time. We can and will win.
