FAIR (Fair Association of victims for Accident Insurance Reform) is a grassroots not-for-profit organization of Ontario car crash survivors and their supporters. We are the end-users of the auto insurance product. http://www.fairassociation.ca/
In Ontario, many homeless are car crash survivors denied coverage by greedy auto insurers. Tribunal hearings are a failure + insurers know this, the regulator FSRA looks the other way + American hedge funds own medical assessment centers.
A total mess

In Ont auto insurance claims for Acquired Brain Injury and/or Cranial Nerve Injury:
In 2013 $16,258 per claim (average)
2025 $1,696 per claim for same injury.
What #Ont auto insurers pay is dropping at an alarming rate = poor coverage = stress on public health

Agree - if you can't collect on the coverage you paid for after a car crash - the policy is worthless. It is an empty promise that does more harm than good.
There's no meaningful accountability for insurers who stiff customers in #Ontario and half of all claims end up in a court/tribunal.

Ontario government is complicit in the punishing of claimants and have created a hearing system (LAT AABS) that favours auto insurers interests over those of injured car crash survivors.

Huge costs being downloaded to taxpayers continues!

Standing in the way of access to treatments too

Income replacement (basic package) currently $400/wk unless you buy up.

Not increased or indexed for 2 decades = far below the poverty line. Insurance is designed around injured people being dumped on Ontario Disability (ODSP) and CPP-D, also below cost of living.

Punishing claimants is the plan

I worry about insurance + climate: *no one* is prepared for the size of the destruction that's coming. My fear is we'll ignore it until the insurance system collapses & then it's just "good luck to you": people will simply get bankrupted by disasters.

I agree with house insurance it’s climate. I don’t know about car insurance in other jurisdictions, but I’ve had more experience than I ever wanted with accident benefits/car insurance and I know it’s profiteering, SOP fraud, and 2008 stock market losses they made up for on the back of claimants. 🤬

In July of 2026 Ontario car insurers will adopt an opt-in model for many types of coverages including income replacement which will become an option.

It will erode coverage and make individuals vulnerable to being personally sued when a driver doesn't opt for income replacement.

This is a bad plan
