I want us to replicate the Québec model of film and TV and visual arts funding across the country and also to create a new/better marketing organization that markets the hell out of Canadian cultural products internationally.

I even have a tagline.

Canadian 🍁 Cachet: You’ll Just Want More
I want to hear your uncomfortably big ideas for Canada!

Yes. I read a an essay about this by a political scientist 15 years ago and it’s lived rent free in my brain ever since.

In a nutshell, he said, the more unstable and out of control the world seems, the more people are willing to cede power to authoritarian leaders.

Stiles is excellent IMHO, esp getting kicked out of the legislature for speaking the truth yesterday. But the Liberals are just AWOL & useless. Crombie could go scorched earth on her way out but nothing. Just total duds. Explains how they picked 2 Ford-lite leaders in a row. Will they do a 3rd?
“What’s disturbing about the scandal though, is how blatant it is. Political appointees are handing out hundreds of millions of dollars from a public slush fund to organizations that are either close to the government or that hire the right political insiders.”

Star Editorial Board: Doug Ford’s latest scandal is almost too brazen to be believed
It suggests Ford has established a system where public money is being handed out not based on need or merit but on who you know or who you pay

“It’s finding connections between things and pulling up material from your past that you’d forgotten about and just making magic on the page where suddenly the story really does start writing itself.” So true! I’ve completely deviated from my outline. It’s like discovering a new country. #NaNoWriMo

“underlying both the leadership race and the general election was the assumption that there would not be a gutting of the country’s climate plan.” Yeah. @mark-carney.bsky.social has separated ways with the majority of Canadians who want #ClimateAction now and sided with the 7% dismissives.

People never change, eh. 😂 🧵👇
Well this 2,600-year-old clay letter was a journey.

It comes from the archive of a goldsmith named Nabû-zeru-iddin in the heart of ancient Assyria. We’ve got someone left on read, a lawsuit, a mean step-mom, and people who get drunk and steal silver.

Wrote 1,452 words today for book 3 of The Q'Zam'Ta Trilogy. Completely abandoned my outline. So typical of me. 😄 And, as usual, abandonment means better flow, conflict, and I still focused on 2 important threads/themes. Win-win. To celebrate, book 2 is now on pre-order!

If you’re wondering why you can’t load up library books, it’s because Toronto Public Library signed everybody out of their accounts, and the Kobo eReader won’t tell you that you have to remove your library card and sign back in. 🙄

Today in novelling, in a rare moment of researching mid-writing, I learnt a Quebec farm grows coffee. "Our Kent coffee trees have survived 25 years of increasingly severe winters on our farm" This nursery sells an outdoor coffee tree and an indoor one.🤯 Kent Coffee began life in India. #NaNoWriMo

This Hittite building ritual (which I stress I cannot read in the original language so I apologise for any mistakes) has many symbolic elements that interlace ideas about kingship, divinity, fertility, and nature.

But what struck me is that one does not take without asking and giving back.

If your human rights can be stripped away by the "notwithstanding clause" then they weren't rights to begin with.

The notwithstanding clause should be dropped or modified so that it cannot be used to suppress human rights.

Electeds should not be able to decide you are less of a person.

Character on TV show: work success = building muscles. You tear down fibres, put in effort, they grow. When you work hard, success comes. I wish! A writer can put the effort in, but success--sales--don't happen sans a superfreighter of luck + megacruise ship of word of mouth. #IndieAuthor #kindle
