I'm pleased to announce that the Version of Record of our eLife paper, "Pan-cortical 2-photon mesoscopic imaging and neurobehavioral alignment in awake, behaving mice" (Vickers and McCormick, 2024) is now available at: elifesciences.org/articles/94167 (94167.3, VOR).
Pan-cortical 2-photon mesoscopic imaging and neurobehavioral alignment in awake, behaving mice
Procedures were developed to perform mesoscale 2-photon Ca2+ imaging simultaneously from all of mouse dorsolateral neocortex, facilitating identification of widespread neural ensembles with activity r...

Hoping to catch a sunbreak in San Diego at #sfn and learn about the intersection between psychedelics, sleep, plasticity, and thalamocortical oscillations?

Stick around through Wednesday and check out our radiant linking poster group from the David McCormick lab!

Hello #SfN2025, I'm here presenting sciop.net, archiving at-risk information and bootstrapping a hybrid federated/p2p archive, rebuilding NWB and integrating acquisition and analysis with lightweight pipelines.

I'll be at ZZ14 in the Monday afternoon session :)

I got a similar message. My study section is being rescheduled for 2 partial days in January. Only 1/3 of grants will be discussed.
Just got an email from my SRO for the study section that was missed in October. Good news is that they are trying to reschedule ASAP (Dec/Jan). The bad news is that CSR is mandating that only the the top third (not half) of applications will get discussed for the next 2 rounds.

See our latest - collab with @jess-cardin.bsky.social, led by @andrewmoberly.bsky.social. We combined mesoscopic and 2p imaging to show that learning-dependent plasticity of ACh release in visual cortex drives enhanced visual representations and conditioned behavior. 1/5 tinyurl.com/3cfea6df
Learning-dependent cholinergic plasticity reconfigures cortical circuit dynamics
Neuromodulation by acetylcholine (ACh) plays a critical role in reshaping neural dynamics in the neocortex as a function of development, behavioral state, and learning [1][1]–[6][2]. Prior work sugges...

Are there any socials or parties at SfN this year that would be particularly suitable for meeting 2p nerds and sharing war stories in the spirit of these Xerox technicians from the 1980s?
Wonderful read about the work ethos among 1980s Xerox service technicians and the importance of practical wisdom and storytelling. That’s what drew me to the community of multiphoton microscope tinkerers, and it explains why I find meaning in the unglamorous process of troubleshooting.

@jeromelecoq.bsky.social describes how he brought together more than 50 scientists to identify the key missing data needed to rigorously test theoretical models and to design experiments to fill those gaps.

Been a rough year for federally funded scientists, and I hate to add another tab to this spreadsheet. So far, the shutdown has resulted in cancellation of 161 CSR study sections. 🧪https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lLEx14q7HKrlYahQYJaN6aHKpMqSMJwX4aenyL5g_ZU/edit?usp=sharing

A pre and post spiking protocol depresses claustrocortical EPSPs, unless you perform the same protocol in the presence of DOI, then the polarity reverses into potentiation! We also see some DOI effects on spike kinetics.

These poor applicants. They will be waiting week by week for government to reopen and to find out what will happen to their grant application.
