Historian of US Army and Army Air Forces in Merseyside and Lancashire in WW2, spotter of wartime ghost signs and model maker.
Two great sort of #ghostsigns! Both on Otterspool Prom #Liverpool. One of the few remaining classic North West Water logos, such a great design! Also classic British Telecom 1980s era logo on an inspection hatch cover. Rich source of ghost signs on the prom!

Ste brings to life a motorway junction I know very well. Never looked at in this way though!
Two views of J31 of the M6 ('Tickled Trout' junc.), an important. spot for a very long time: the dots on the left view are poss. hillforts, overlooking the Ribble valley. The #CuerdaleHoard was found (1840) bottom left & the Mway junc. was the 1st in the UK (1958). #Lancashire #HillfortsWednesday

Union Bridge over the former St Helens Railway (formerly St Helens and Runcorn Gap) near the Dream installation. The bridge in the background is the M62 motorway bridge I’m usually driving over. I don’t know why it took me so long to visit another fabulous disused railway.

Went for a walk around Limehouse in the East End today and came across this “S” “Shelter for 250 Persons” on the wall of the Church of Our Lady Immaculate and St Frederick in Commercial Road.

Great thread from Chris both about British defences and how combining skills helps unlock things that we might otherwise miss.
Time for a mini #ConcreteThread.
This time I’ll be joined by @stephaniekw.bsky.social, who has now been successfully converted to concrete cause. We'll be taking a quick look at my favourite pillbox. But we'll look at it from a different perspective.

Visiting the world famous glass-making heritage of #StHelens at the World of Glass. Fantastic to see so much industrial archaeology in a local museum! Great glass blowing demonstration too @stelingard.bsky.social

#usaaf Air Service Command distinctive unit insignia (DUI), a kind gift from my good friend Carl. Pretty sure it’s #ww2, looks like it was originally pin backed and converted to clutch at some point. If anyone knows the difference between this and the 4-blade version, I’m all ears!

Cracking Emergency Water Supply spot in #Chester by Ste 👇
Prominent Emergency Water Supply #GhostSign on St. Werburgh's parish centre / The Old Bowling Green, #Chester. How I have missed that on my many previous visits, I do not know. #GhostSigns @euanwithersby.bsky.social
