Great spot Roy! I’d say from the second photo in particular that the wear pattern of the paint is consistent with wartime signs. Good confirmation if there is the remains of a bracket underneath.

It’s a cracking spot Ste! Chester has a wealth of ghost signs, some of them now sadly gone including the EWS on the walk up from the station.

Always thought it had the air of a cinema crossed with a grand department store. Nice to know what it was!
