Not sure whether this version came from before or after Isbell's sobriety, but I view it as one of our country's sacred songs, alongside CSNY's "Ohio."

Ouch. Worst possible look for Summers.
Summers conferred with Epstein frequently about how to extract sexual favors from a Harvard econ grad (AB '04, PhD '09)

The grad is from China

For *decades* scientists have been warning us about the dangers in Global Warming.

Republicans have lied about it and prevented any meaningful steps to slow or reverse the process.
In less than a week, there were at least four 1-in-1,000-year rainfall events across the U.S. — intense deluges that are thought to have roughly a 0.1% chance of happening in any given year.

Yeah. The NYTimes story is loaded with material that is defamation "per se" under many states' laws (including Texas), which would turbocharge any lawsuit Musk brought, removing his need to prove damages.

NYTimes' counsel knows that. To print it, they must have immaculate sources.
The thing in the NYT story about he gets tipped off about federal drug tests ahead of time is eyebrow raising, not because it's surprising, but it's surprising they have that sourced well enough to actually print it. It's a very serious accusation that implicates many others in serious crime
He’s also a pretty major federal defense contractor via SpaceX and they are supposed to have strict rules about this stuff

Oleg Gordievsky has died. What makes him so interesting is that he illustrates the stabilising role intelligence can play: he helped Reagan & Thatcher understand the USSR was genuinely worried about nuclear war, allowing them to take that into account in their policy www.bbc.com/news/article...

I need to watch this Auschwitz film, not that I want to do so. Will get to it soon. I visited numerous atrocity sights amid work on bio of Jan Karski, first published 1994 and due to come out in a seventh edition this year from Texas Tech University Press
This was an incredible movie about the commandant of Auschwitz and his family living right next door - it was beautiful, subtle. It drew attention to the contrast between family life continuing normally and the cultivation of a garden just over the wall from the horror of a death camp.

For the most part, I greatly admire General Marshall. But the pre-Pearl Harbor quotation here is not the only evidence that GCM knew Tokyo could be utterly immolated. I have seen correspondence in which he says much the same thing in the late 1930s.
